Linda Horstmann
With an extensive background in fashion, art, and color theory, I enjoy painting with vibrant colors, primarily pastels, watercolors, and acrylics.
At an early age, I learned that if one was creative, one could take this skill and develop it to become whatever one cared to be. Hence, I became a clothing designer for a time; then I opened an advertising and marketing agency. I consulted with publications in Maine, and formed a partnership, becoming the original publisher of Maine Home + Design, Maine’s Little Book, and ZEST Magazine.
While engaging with my professional side, I learned I could foster the arts in those around me. I worked with the Portland Symphony, Children’s Theatre of Maine, 317 Main Street, the Artisans Collective, Yarmouth Arts Alliance, and Yarmouth Summer Arts Series. I am still involved with the Yarmouth Arts Alliance and passionate about bringing a collection of public art to Yarmouth.
After having many successful careers, I started painting large pastels and showing them in galleries. My paintings have evolved from my love of nature. Once I complete a painting, I am overwhelmed by the inner peace that I feel. I find that painting is my quiet time.
I recently developed a series of watercolor cards—orchids, spring and summer flowers, and birds, which brings me great joy!
